I thought they could do it arthoscopically? But I don't know for sure. Max was tacked when he bloated. I do believe that tacked dogs can bloat, but I would feel better if my dog were tacked. Not sure if I would do it if it couldn't be done arthoscopically, and no clue about age. Long term GSD should know more about this than I.

As a side note, Jazz has the shape and disposition, and weak collagen that makes her prone to bloat, sometimes that makes me nervous.

On the flip side, tacking a stomach could have an affect on motility and the use of the stomach to help digest, or at least I have seen that argument, no clue how true it is.
