Thinking back over your stories of Cheyenne what stands out is how with every 'last ditch' effort you made to improve her health she made one more leap and you marched on together with flags flying high. You and your family thought of new ways to love and care for a elder dog and she showed us all what hearts can beat under white coats.

Let your hearts rest a little now, she is healthy and bright-eyed, looking down.

Yesterday was a black stormy day...right after Cheyenne left us...the sky cleared...a blue sky emerged and the sun came out. Later we saw a rainbow and my kids said it was a sign that everything was fine.

Know that I am totally at peace with my decision...because Cheyenne let me know it was time. Despite all the imput and advice I received...I could not let her go a minute sooner. She was such a huge part of my life...I was so close to her...I knew she would let me know..and she did on Thursday morning....and Thursday I let her go. Wednesday would have been too soon...Friday...too late. I am someone that second guesses everything...beats things to death...but not this time. We were so close...I just knew without a shadow of a doubt...she was ready to leave.

And so...this beautiful story comes to an end. Over 3 years ago...this sick old dog came to us for a few weeks of love and comfort before she died. She had heartworm, inoperative cancer, heart failure and multiple infections. It was overwhelming. Yet...with your help and encouragement...we started to pick away at her illnesses. Her strong will to live got her through heartworm treatment, two cancer surgeries and multiple other issues. She transformed into a beautiful vibrant girl. She spent three summers splashing in the lake...she celebrated holidays....she slept with me...she was home...she was a part of our family...and so very loved. Every step of the way....all of you were with us. Without you...we could not have done this. Please know...we will be forever grateful.

And so....I hope by this story...people know...that EVERY life is valuable...and where there is life...there is hope. Do not be deterred by age or illness. Do not be afraid that you may not be able to handle something. Take that leap of faith. Cheyenne showed us that anything is possible. We love you all.

Mary Ann, I am so glad that Cheyenne let you know when she was ready to go and didn't have any thing left to give. I know I have seen that with some of my dogs in the past.

Mary Ann, I am lost for words. I know your heart is breaking right now. I have never known anyone in my entire life that fought for survival of a dog as hard as you did with Cheyenne. You sent me an email on March 3, 2010, and said look at my new foster and gave me the link to the forum and said I should join. I did and have been following Chey's journey ever since. You and your family gave her more love and hope than anyone could have. I know you have cried many tears for her in the last 3yrs. Cheyenne knew how much you loved her and she knew you didn't want to let her go. But she knew when it was time to let you know it was ok, she was ready. Now she is no longer in pain and running free with all the others than have gone to rainbow bridge. When you see her again, she will be able to run to you and her eyes will be bright again. I will be praying for you and your family that the pain will ease with each passing day. Love you, Linda & Cain

Cheyenne's rainbow of gratitude and wellbeing touches my heart as a true sign. Mary Ann, you transformed Cheyenne's life. Her life was itself a gift to all of those who knew, and knew of, her. I'm wishing you strength and comfort. hugging hugging hugging
