If you had been warned about the incontinence, you could have been prepared with a mattress cover to help with the clean-ups. I have some here, the non-fitted kind, I got them at Walmart. The larger ones fit a twin size. You can get smaller ones in the baby section. I'm glad that it's normal, because somethign like that might freak me out a bit, thinking that something went wrong! yeah for normal!

If you decide to post pics, we'll just make sure to put a "graphic" note in the subject, and I'll also change the original title, then folks can decide if they want to look or not. That is, if you decide to post them. Or if they are posted on Richard's blog(?), you could put a link in your post, however you want to deal with it.

She seems to be dry for now, so here's to hoping that part is done. I had bath rugs in the crate, so it stayed moderately clean, but I can't bathe her until suture removal. Will be off to get some sleep soon.

Her appetite is good though smile

I think these threads are so good for future THR people/dogs to read, thank you for sharing what is a stressful experience for you all. Hoping that it's all nice and quiet now. I think they have some residual stress after being at the vet, if they are that kind of dog.

Siena seems to be doing well. She slept until about 4AM then started pacing back and forth. I took her out for a pee (the bed was still dry, thankfully) and gave her the next round of pain/sedative meds, then she fell asleep. Overall, not a bad night (although I slept on the couch to be near her and slept with one eye open). She is drinking and eating well. The doc said that likely tomorrow (Monday), she will turn a corner and we will wonder if she really had surgery smile Keeping her busy without exercise will definitely be a challenge... 12-16 weeks...ugh I just put up a calendar so we can cross out each day.

As for the vets, she is remarkably good given all the times she's had to be there overnight or for surgeries. This was a brand new location/vet so the unknown was definitely there. She's so vocal...always telling the vet what is going on with her smile

Her first poo (yesterday) was actually very good. We're giving her fast balance gi while she's on the antibiotics because they will for sure give her diarrhea (most things do), plus it helps with stress, etc. That is the next thing I will keep an eye out on is diarrhea.

She is a sneaky one though. We've had the 'cone of shame' on her since she came home. I take it off when she eats and when I can watch her closely. She just finished breakfast and was being calm and not touching the stitches so I left the room to go potty... I heard a funny sound (thought maybe she decided to check out her bully stick) so I ran out and yup, she was trying to pull out her stitches. Thankfully she didn't do any damage and I'm glad I got there when I did. That would not have been good. So, the cone is back on semi-permanently for the next 10 days til they come out. Once the cone is off, she can sleep in the small crate in our room, but for now, she would get caught up in the crate so will leave her in the family room and set up camp there instead.

I'm happy to keep the thread going for others to see. It certainly was helpful when Kathy (Kayos) shared her story with me, it helped me understand the process a bit better (esp. recovery). The pics helped too.

I will ask one of the mods (Lisa?) to modify the title, if that is helpful for the future. Still working on getting the pics loaded...hopefully today sometime.

Thanks again for all the support. We appreciate it!!

Here are some pics Siena wanted us to post...

This is Siena looking quite perky after coming home after surgery. Don't let her fool you, she's loopy in all the other pics and we want her to look her best. You can see the scar (about 6 inches) on her left hip. She has some adhesion marks on her hip from the bandage (removal). Like mom, she has sensitive skin.

A close up of the back end (nice and neat). When we first saw her, she came with the right side to us and we gasped when we saw the bare leg... kind of looks like a skinny ole chicken leg, with a sock smile

Here is her mini-condo ... her second bed (just outside the view on the left) is now inside the xpen so she can have an alternate place to lay. She'll be in this 95% of the time for the next who knows how long, few months, I suppose.

Awww, look at that poor baby with her naked leg! frown Hope she's feeling better soon, but not TOO good or it's going to be even more of a challenge to keep her from overdoing it.

I just set up our indoor security camera so at least I can monitor her movements if I am at work (which I will have to be at some point). My sister will come and help when she can once I return to the office (15th).

Yeah, she looks pretty pathetic and she is a sweetheart!
