Jean,

I just watched the video on Mila's blog showing DAvey's heartworm surgery.

I can't figure out to post a comment there, but I wanted to say that everyone who thinks monthly heartworm meds are too expensive or that "my dog won't get heart worms" should be required to watch the video.

What a great blog you have. It may save a dog's life some day just by prompting it's owner to treat it.

Thank you!

Way to go, Auntie Mila! I'll square off and bark at them heart worms for you!

Chipster

PS About eatin': When I wasn't at first, I got Sarah to hand feed me warm green tripe with noodles. Really yummie! Have you tried?

smile Mila loves Dr. Bruno. Thank you for checking on her!

She's allowed to see him again and she's happy. He...well...he hasn't corrected her yet, but I know if she pushes it, he will so I try to help her understand how you treat the good doctor.

She is doing really well. I extended her crate and leash stuff because she had so much trouble there for a week. The four week mark is not a magic time and I remember a dog that came from Arkansas named Emme, years ago, who through WHAT?!?! I need a vacation! THREW a giant clot on the last day of her crate rest and almost did not make it.

Mila will be going to the groomers on the 14th allowing her time to build up a little before all that rigamarole. The groomer is great with older dogs or dogs with ortho issues. Or dogs like mine. laugh Mila is actually looking and smelling better already - something comes out through the skin with that treatment that is weird smelling.

So next week we'll start working into being more active, slowly and carefully, observing how she does.

There is no chance tripe would be found here Chipster! I gag giving them sardines...it's just not...I can't.

Thanks on the blog - I do hope it helps someone/some dog. I started a big link list too on it of all the places I've gotten info from for it. That video...I can't watch videos that well on my computer and that one makes me kind of glad I can't.

Mila had someone interested in her, but I think they are going to adopt a shelter dog, which is great for the shelter dog, but very disappointing for Miss Mila. I am sure her person is out there, sense of humor required or they will miss out on so much of her wonderfulosity.

I've had dogs my entire life, never had a dog with heartworms, but when you see this process spelled out...well it makes it so clear just how important the preventative is. It really is something to read & see. Your sense of humor sprinkled in with all that info is perfect.
I'm sorry you have to go through all this Miss Mila Monster. hugging I'm thrilled to see you continue to live up to your name! Someday soon your person will find you & appreciate your unique personality. crossedfingers

p.s. I love love Dr Bruno too!!! wub

I am glad to hear that she is doing well, sorry to hear that she hasn't found her forever home yet though. Good things take time?

http://bigdogsbigheartworm.blogspot.com/2011/10/this-just-in-immiticide-sort-of.html

So there is some Immiticide coming in from Europe to be triaged to the neediest dogs.

Thank you FOTF! I had no idea either until I fostered a dog - and even then didn't understand. Actually, reading this stuff for the blog is helping me to understand now some of the stuff I had read before and didn't get at all.

Mila Monster and Bruno got to hang out a bit again today. She's all flirty and he tolerates it, she goes out to potty and he hides under a chair. She comes in like where is Dr. Bruno??? It's sweet - he is trying - he just doesn't like her to get so up in his business. She's so adorable.

Yep, you're right, good things take time. Luka, Dylan both took quite a long time and she's older so has that "against" her. Even Rosa, for a baby puppy took a while due to her illness. Mila's just waiting for that person who needs her like their people did.
