I don't think the hips would pass based on the left hip, which I think would be graded Mild HD due to the subluxation. The right is better and would be a fair, IMO. Yes, the positioning could be better, but I doubt whether it would change things significantly. At her age it's highly unlikely there would be any improvement. Having said that, even if her hips don't pass OFA and are not suitable for breeding, that doesn't mean she can't lead a normal life. She may never have any clinical symptoms. Again, this is solely my opinion. Only OFA or a consult with an ortho specialist can tell you for sure.

Here is a link which has examples of OFA grades:

How much glucosamine is she on?

What Sandy says makes sense.

And all of this seems consistent with what the vet said. I saw on the other forum that you heard back from him.

I would though make sure that you were giving an adequate doe of joint stuff.

Need to fix a typo on my post. The left is better than the right, not the opposite as I originally posted. I must be dyslexic today!

She is getting about 1000 - 1200mg glucosamine, + the MSM and chron that comes with it.

And The fish oil,

Just for reference what the specialist said that i posted in the other forum is below;

"Her hips and elbows are fairly good. The hips - the right hip is just slightly shallow and just slightly loose - nothing to worry about, the left hip has a very slight thickening of the cranial acetabular edge, again nothing to worry about, her elbows are normal. There is a calcinosis ( calcium deposit next to one elbow - again not an issue, won't cause any lameness etc.
Her hips would probably score around 6-8 on the right and 4-5 on the left. The pass mark for the "A" stamp is a maximum of 8 points in total with no more than 3 points in any one area. Certainly would not be concerned about either of her hips or elbows as a long term issue,"

"She would rate 1 down from excellent, you do not ned to limit her exercise , however treadmill can be rather dangerous unless watched closely best if you take her running - good for both of you! Glucosamine and fish oil are never wasted, won't do any harm, can help, "

That sounds like good amount for the supplement.

Hi, I just joined the forum. Would like to get peoples opinion on my 6 year old GSD hip x-ray. I took him to the vet as he's been limping for the last couple of days, after examination and x-rays the vet is pretty sure he has some issue with his right knee and the hips look fine. To me the positioning for the x-ray is not good, but maybe its good enough to rule out any problems with the hips. What do you all think?

Just a reminder, that this thread is for hip xrays that are sent for OFA rating. If anyone wants to discuss other xrays, here is a good thread for that, or you can start a thread just for your dog.
