I noticed Nature's Logic is listed twice, I've emailed to find out which it is.

If it's Crosswind I'm going to fall out of my chair laughing, you can't get two more different foods!!

I gave up on Kumpi. But I still use Zukes training treats. They are made by Crosswind. If you listen to Evelyn Serpa, it is Crosswind that does all the testing on the foods, and they seemed to be consistent in quality from bag to bag. But I just could not justify $50/bag for corn meal, and some of my girls remained rather skinny on it.

I went to 4-Health, and after a few bags, the old Diamond inconsistency and then the recall. Now my girls are losing weight again. Uhg. I switched to Diamond Naturals, Adult and Extreme Athlete in hopes that the higher calorie, higher protein, higher fat would help. Now I am trying to give it a chance to do the job. The price is right, but it may not be.

If this does not work, I think I am going to switch to Pro-plan and give that a try.

I heard from NL and they have contacted Susan and the page has been updated to the new information which is:
Quote:
Good morning, Barb;

I work with Scott Freeman at Nature’s Logic and he shared your recent emails regarding our manufacturing partners. As Scott indicated, Nature’s Logic has been working with Mid-American to produce our dry kibble formulas since March of 2011. I have contacted Susan Thixton at Truth About Pet Food and she tells me she has already updated the information in her blog post from yesterday and on her Petsumer Reports. Thanks for bringing this to our attention so we could correct it.

I did go back to the link and the site has been updated now.
I got a lot of links to info provided by NL - I'll post them in another thread for anyone that might be interested

Acc. to an email response from Wellness, this is where they currently manufacture at least some of their kibble:

http://www.animanufacturing.com/

Their own brand name food 'Atta Boy!" is lowest quality, corn based:
http://www.anibrands.com/brands1

Company profile:
http://www.manta.com/c/mm21tl8/american-nutrition-inc
"Products or Services: Chiwawa Food, Ol Roy Dog Food, Homemade Dog Food Recipes, Purina Dog Food and Pinnacle Dog Food."

Another company profile:
http://investing.businessweek.com/research/stocks/private/snapshot.asp?privcapId=4345061

Someone in Cambridge (not me!) posted what looks like an enlarged and enhanced google pic, incl. with google map info:
http://www.panoramio.com/photo/69887500i

I have no idea whether this factory (and others) is any better or safer than Diamond (or Menu of infamous past). To find out, maybe find USDA inspection records? At least it's manufactured in the US, but the ingredients? And hygiene?

From Solid Gold:

"In April, Diamond Pet Foods did stop producing the 4 foods that they had been making for us; in mid-August they resumed production of those four foods which include Hund n Flocken and our three bison products (WolfCub, WolfKing and Just a Wee Bit) at their Meta, MO facility.

Crosswind Industries, located in Kansas, manufactures our remaining formulations which include Holistique Blendz, Hundchen Flocken, Barking at the Moon, Millennia, Sun Dancer, Katz N Flocken and IndigoMoon."

Joplin Mars PetCare to close (others remain open):
http://www.koamtv.com/story/22499427/mars-pet-food-closes-121-lose-their-jobs

(Could the selling of less dry food not be a switch to smaller dogs, but owners buying better quality foods?)

(Never good when folks lose their jobs though....)

Did you see in the 2 comments below the article that Blue Buffalo is building a plant of their own in that location? Hopefully the people who lost their jobs won't be out of work for long.

Looks like Procter & Gamble pulled out of pet food.

I heard that the people who founded Natura and sold it to P&G started a new small business but I haven't followed up on it. Anyone know more?

Champion Petfoods in Canada make Orijen and Acana.
High quality and very high priced, IMHO.

The reason I was looking into American N. Premium is because I want to try it. I feel comfortable that Fromm makes it. Did anyone try it?

Doesn't seem like anyone on this board has. Guess you get to write the first review.

My guess is it's the ingredients and processing. Some poorer quality dog foods will actually add coloring to look appealing to the owners.

Veggies can change it to some degree, but I don't know how much if the food is processed, and some foods just pay lip service to that stuff in processed foods. When I add a salad mix to my dog's homemade food, it's pretty green in color, which is different than when I add beets or carrots.

thank you, for your help, I feed dr gary's best breed and it was dark now it is lighter, so cheaper dog food keeps the color consistent with coloring. I guess I am okay then I hope.
