WARNING!!!! The second link has a video of a very scared GSD (although the breed doesn't matter I guess) desperately trying to avoid being pushed into some kind of turbulent water. It's AWFUL! so much for the film ........

From what I saw, I didn't think it was so bad. I think we all know that some dogs can really resist water when you want them to get in it. With dogs and horses, they often resist pressure rather than yeilding to it.
On the other hand, show biz has a history of less than fine treatment of animals. Take a look into how they made those scenes with horses in older movies. Who knows what they did with cattle (but we don't care about cattle because after all we use pretty brutal slaughter techniques and eat them). So basically, the use of the GSD shown seems pretty mild to me.

The one video is so heavily edited, there is no way to know what actually happened. AND, why, when this video was filmed in 2015, did the AR slanting group wait to post the video until now? Think, don't just react because that is what they want.

Although I think there are better methods of getting that scene done (training technique or even just a more confident and driven dog) I really don't think it was that bad. Dogs act like huge babies and are overly dramatic about the smallest things sometimes; nail trimming and bath time come to mind for Basia. I still make her do it.

Honestly, the GSD breed has such a HUGE range of temperaments and drives, they could have gotten a ridiculously over-zealous dog like my Grimm to do the scene (He delights in terribly wild, nutty, risky situations).
I've had a gentle, soft-natured, sensitive GSD in the past. I can't even view the clip, the stills are more than I want to see. This is wrong and not necessary.
It would have taken very little time to find a too-bold, zany, fearless GSD for this brief scene.

Further info on the not always reliable internet claims that the dog had no problem with water and working in those conditions until then. From my experience, I can buy that. It's a bit like in a trial "My dog's never done that before!" which I am sure every judge hears at least once a trial.

This has been all over Facebook. Yes the dog was stressed, yes, they stopped shooting and moved the dog back to the other side of the pool where he had been happily rehearsing the scene. The video going around was heavily edited and made to look much worse than it was. Sensationalism by none other than TADA!!!!!! PETA.
