Hi everyone, I am Charlene and I live in Maine.. I have a miniature pinscher, Ellie, long story short, I promised my mom two months before she passed that I would take her, so what could I do? she is a very good dog, she 6 yrs old now.... and we have a new baby, Karlee, who is a purebred german shepherd, whom we got from an individual who couldn't keep her as she and her husband got full time jobs and it was just too difficult. She is 4 yrs. old, has been spayed, up to date on everything and I think she is going to be a beautiful addition to our family once we get the quirks worked out..... before she had a male german shepherd whom she played with, poor Ellie has never had anyone and is pretty particular of who comes near her Momma, lol...of course she might be a little spoiled... Karlee, is so much bigger and used to the big dog, she wants to play, but she is a little too rough, we just got her last Thursday so am hoping things will get better... I have never crated my baby and I hate to have to crate Karlee when I am gone, only because I am afraid she will hurt the little one... I just don't think that is right..... anyways, I have two kids, both grown, two grandchildren and 2 greatgrandchildren, lol...... I had a shepherd years ago and she was a purebred also, great dog... my s/o has had shepherds throughout the years so is familiar with them.... guess that is it, except for thanx for the add..... will post pics soon...

Hi Charlene,
Welcome to "opinions unlimited" regarding the care and well-being of dogs. What can I say? Work to get over your personal loathing of crates.;) It is a way to keep both dogs safe when you are not there. Dogs can be trained to love their crates, too. (see crate games) What's "fair" here is to prevent injury to either dog.
It sounds like both dogs are recent additions although I am unclear about Ellie. If so, another thought would be to see if one of your grown kids would give one of the dogs a good home. Things may settle down and all be well at your house soon. A few days is not really enough time to judge unless things have gone south fast.
