We have a sticky for coats and harnesses and boots. Here folks can post other things they use, do, or accommodations they make for their seniors.

If you need to leash your senior but also need to keep your hands free to be able to hold a harness and pick up etc, I love this 'hands free' and light weight leash:

The handle loop has a clip to fasten. I widen the handle loop to wear it around my waist, and the dog can walk comfortably by my side and even lie down. I use it for all my dogs once they are leash trained, and in areas where leashes are required.

I am trying to find a dog bed with removable lining for washing. Abbey keeps lying on rugs and doesn't always lay on her bed (used thick bds, foam beds, fluffy beds). I almost resigned to use a rug as her bed but that can't be comdortable! What do y'all use?

How I got around the dog bed washing thing - think along the lines of moisture proof mattress covers -- Use a large garbage bag (heavy duty 'contractor' trash bags work great, less sturdy ones are less noisy and hold up fairly well) to cover the pillow or mattress. Tape it shut if you think you need to. Then, of course, put the pillow back inside the washable cloth cover. Works great for puppies, old dogs, and 'wrecks' in general.

I'm thinking she's sleeping where she's most comfortable at the time. Provide her with a nice bed. But if you find her sleeping on a rug instead be just thankful that she's comfortable. If you wanted to you could always get a thicker rug and see if she likes that more.

She hasn't been having accidents. I just needed to be able to wash hair and dust off the lining every week. But the garbage bag is a GREAT idea and I am so glad you suggested it! I will remember this if she starts having accidents. This also gave me the idea that I can sew my own version of a removable bed cover. Thanks for the tips!

Yes on the Sew Your Own thing. I made a "fitted sheet" for the crib mattress and it works to cover a dog bed, too. I need to build more of those because it is easier than washing the covers. It's an easy project, too. You could just do a partial casing on each end & run elastic through that.

The thing with rugs is I need to use the ones without backing because, in my experience, the non-slip backing comes off in the wash just enough to louse up the machine with each washing.
