Friends, Buddy has been on milk thistle for about a year. It has helped him, but his liver values are really tanking again compared to January.

I really like Herbsmith for the milk thistle, but don't know the best company for SAM-e.

I want a powdered form. Has anyone used MaxxiSAM-e?

Or do you know if another trusted brand?

Buddy was 17 in April and has battled liver cancer for the better part of the last year. In addition to milk thistle, I make turmeric paste (gold paste) for him.

Any ideas are appreciated. And, here's Buddy!

Oh, thank you from us both. Buddy is amazing and to have made it to 17? Unbelievable!

But, I think our options are narrowing. You know from our chats that his comfort is most important. And you also would know happy he is tonight....I bought him a watermelon on the way home.

Hi Bonnie, good to see Buddy wub He is in great hands.

It used to be that they recommended getting SAMe that is individually wrapped, but that may be old advice from years ago, they may be processing it differently now.

The old country life Liver Support Factors with the ingredient list ( https://m.luckyvitamin.com/p-8549-countr...;LanguageCode=E ) works much better than plain milk thistle. Unfortunately they recently changed the formula. I didn't buy enough of the old stuff when it was available, I need to check the local stores. I've recently started jazz on mercolas liver/kidney support because it's a powder and looks promising.

Anyway, that doesn't answer your question at all. I would double check the "individual wrapping" thing. I had some nutramaxx SAMe here but ended up not using it.

Buddy's kidneys are in great shape, so I don't want to add any kidney support. Kind of 'keep it simple.'

I didn't see any individually wrapped SAM-e. There were tablets or capsules, but they needed to be given an hour or more away from food to be fully absorbed. That is difficult.

The powder of the one I'm looking at is formulated to be given with food, which is helpful.

Buddy has done great on the Herb Smith milk thistle and it is stronger than what's in denamarine with Sam-e.

His vet agreed we don't want to change that at this point. That's why I'm looking into SAM-e products.

I appreciate your help and encouragement. I'm probably over thinking it at this point. I just don't want to miss anything.

A lot of liver support will actually also support the kidneys, which is a bonus. I completely appreciate the over-thought and caution, I would be doing the same thing.

Is this the product? http://www.maxxidog.com/us/392/maxxisame/

Down at the bottom it mentions that it is in a "stabilized" form' which is what you are looking for in a SAM-e product. I would be comfortable trying this supplement.

Oh, how nice of you to ask about Buddy.

He has improved since adding the Sam-e. It wasn't right away, but within a couple of weeks. The first thing I noticed was that he could get onto his beds again. He had been having trouble with that. They are about 4 inches high.

His appetite, as always, is good. He also is seeking attention once more.

I do believe he did need the Sam-e and any little bit of improvement is appreciated.

I feel better too, knowing he is more comfortable again.

At this point, comfort is our main concern.

Buddy: 17 years, 5 months.
