Kamahi's health strikes again. frown I feel I should share this here, because Kamahi "grew up" on this page. Most of you know his story, just as I "know" all of your dogs and their stories. This place has always felt like coming back home, so it only feels right to keep everyone informed on how one of the older "house" dogs is doing. I hope that doesn't sound too corny! Anyway, here goes.. Also, I'm going to put this here just incase:

*WARNING: There may be slightly gross information ahead*

The series of events this morning turned from an upset stomach to bouts of bloody vomiting & bloody diarrhea. I rushed him to the Vet ASAP, but it wasn't until the third Vet that we found answers.

Basically, the blood could be a result of getting into some cooked chicken bones (over 48 hours ago, now) and those irritating the lining of his stomach. It was confirmed via x-ray & ultrasound that his insides were luckily NOT perforated. OR; a tumor was found hidden inside his abdomen today. The next theory was that it could be hemmorhaging.

So, the Vet is holding him under 24-hour care tonight, while he is on an IV drip, antibiotics, and anti-nausea meds. They will also be taking a blood panel and testing for hemmorhaging. I'll find out in the morning what the plan is from here, and hopefully he'll be stable enough for surgery to remove the mass. I'll pick him up tomorrow evening. Again, hopefully, although the Vet is pretty confident he should be okay. The tumor is a bit more pressing, however. I will update again as soon as I have the results back.

We paw you guys. Thank you for always being around through thick and thin. I'm feeling very nostalgic today with all of the deja vu and I must say, I miss everyone here. Hope you and yours are doing well and in good health. Hopefully I will be around a lot more. <3

hugging Mary Jane, I truly appreciate it!

Update:
The Vet called this morning to inform me that Kamahi'd had a really bad Pancreatitis flare-up yesterday, and he will have to remain in treatment for a few more days. Although, good news: he did eat some this morning! (Though he had to be hand fed) Also... The tumor may not be a tumor after all! happyboogie please It may just be an inflamed pancreas. We're not too sure at this point. The x-rays will be retaken in a few days since he is still not stable enough to go in for exploratory surgery.

I will find out more this evening, but my best guess is that I will not know too much more about the "mystery mass" until Monday or Tuesday.

Inflammation can cause all sorts of bad things, so hopefully it will calm soon. The key also to get the right antibiotics. I hope he's up and about very soon!

Sorry for the wait, I just wasn't given much more information until today. imsorry The good news? Kamahi seems to be over the worst of his Pancreatic episode. groovy No more bloody stools or vomiting, thankfully. The mixed news? We still don't know if he has a tumor or not. My Vet suggested the x-rays portrayed his intestines and an organ as a mass, because he wasn't seeing much in the CT Scan. However, we'll find out for sure from an actual Radiologist tomorrow.

Also, I'm honestly flat-out exhausted and just ready to fall asleep next to Kamahi's dog bed. So here is the Facebook update as well:

Thank you all for your prayers and well wishes. They must've worked! <3 Today I made the long drive to the Vet and back to pick up my baby boy. Two back-to-back x-rays, an ultrasound, blood test, several IVs, antibiotics, anti-nausea meds, and a CT Scan later....(phew) and my boy is good as new...just super groggy. sleep The tech said he'll probably be super excited to go home. He'd been through a lot. frown

We find out CT Scan results tomorrow, and here's hoping they find nothing. If not, we're back to the office for surgery and a biopsy. This boy sure does know how to freak me out, but a happy dog makes it all worth it in the end. fetch

Thinking good thoughts here about the radiologist's report.
