I was dropping Abbey off at my mom's for the weekend when a couple dogs decided to show up and be intimidating and obnoxious. One was a little mutt and the other was a full grown, muscular bulldog. They were across the street barking and pacing. We ignored them. They got closer, slowly crossing the street. Abbey was still ignoring them, and I tell Abbey to get back in the backyard where I can gate her and not worry about the dogs. Well, soon as we turned toward the backyard, the bulldog charged. Abbey quickly acted, charging at the bulldog.

I don't think that dog expected her to charge at them! Both the bulldog and the mutt ran away with their tail between their legs! I called her and she came back. I was worried about the bulldog tearing her up but she sure showed him!
She got a special treat smile

You got lucky! Hopefully they don't return and make a habit out of it!

How old is your dog?

Agree with others above - she and you got lucky about the bulldog, most wouldn't have done what they did.

Abbey must be extremely well trained to be able to be recalled while in the "heat of battle". From experience I can tell you that it takes a lot of training (at least it did for my full grown adult male GSD) to have a dog be able to do that!

Congrats on her obedience!

They never returned, thankfully. She was staying with my mom's for the weekend and she said they never came back.
Codmaster, Abbey is about 10 years old. She is trained but not that well trained like you think. I know I am lucky! There were times I would call her and she'd ignore me. I think I had a tone that she recognized that she had to heed. Bulldogs can be destructive. She's very protective of her family. We have been in enough situations where a dog charged at us and I know how she handles it. She walks away every time not hurt. And I am thankful she wasn't hurt.

We live in a city with leash laws... But things happen. My husband and I decided we should get another dog. There's gonna be a day that Abbey is too old to be the protector dog. We don't want her putting herself in a position where she gets hurt because she couldn't chase off a younger, stronger dog.

I did see the original post with her age - thanks. 10 is a bit old to be tangling with another large dog so thank goodness the bulldog was like it was.
