Wow all your dogs are beautiful!!! This may sound stupid, but what is the difference between show and working line. I mean besides shows looking pretty and working like doing police work and such. Can show line dogs do agility and be protective. I think I am a little confused. I am still looking at some breeders and some are show lines, so I don't know if maybe a show line dog would be best even though I don't plan to show him. I do want to get him into agility. Are show dogs as active such as frisbees and balls?

Most of my American show line dogs also do things -- herding, agility, obedience, rally, etc. If you look all the way thru the thread you will see photos of swimming, obedience, agility, as well as show pictures. They tend to me more laid back than working lines, but they still like to do things. Any German Shepherd will be a deterent to strangers.

Why do dog show photos always look like they're from the 70's or 80's? I don't know if it's the sunglasses, the backgrounds, or the way professional handlers dress, but they always kind of look like a blast from the past.

Maybe "show styles" haven't kept up! We are too busy spending money on entries and can't update the wardrobe?

If you get an American Show lines dog with some decent drive, you can do lots of things with them. I would say they are not as much dog as my working line dogs. It is difficult to describe but they seem less "powerful" in a way. I have seen many Am SL dogs with food and toy drive and a desire to do activities. If you pick a suitable one, there are many dog events they can do. My little showline pup has a lot of drive for prey objects. I do not think she will have courage and fighting drive pronounced and that is a difference from my working line boy.

Just comparing my friends WG Showline male to Stark (who is not 100% working line, I know) but for arguments sake, I can see that Stark is a lot more INTENSE and has more strength, nerves and courage and defence than the other male. Stark is just MORE dog than the other. If that makes sense?

I always noticed that too!

One person who I can think of who breaks that sterotype is Lies and her friends. Whenever I see them in training photo's or show photo's that she posts.. they are always wearing such nice clothes and look so modern and "in".
