I thought it would be cool for us to post pictures (and pedigrees if available) on the different lines so that people can see the difference when they are searching for a new member of the family.

This is for all of us to post on, not just me, so have at it.

Daphne, a great idea for a thread! I love the jumping photo. Perhaps it might help to show a dog in a show stance-- but then also standing freely in a back garden or kitchen? People looking for a pet might enjoy seeing the topline and stance when it's natural as well as stacked, to form a better impression of how the dog my look... once they get it home and unwrap it, so to speak! wink These are lovely photos. Thanks for sharing them.

Wow all your dogs are beautiful!!! This may sound stupid, but what is the difference between show and working line. I mean besides shows looking pretty and working like doing police work and such. Can show line dogs do agility and be protective. I think I am a little confused. I am still looking at some breeders and some are show lines, so I don't know if maybe a show line dog would be best even though I don't plan to show him. I do want to get him into agility. Are show dogs as active such as frisbees and balls?

Most of my American show line dogs also do things -- herding, agility, obedience, rally, etc. If you look all the way thru the thread you will see photos of swimming, obedience, agility, as well as show pictures. They tend to me more laid back than working lines, but they still like to do things. Any German Shepherd will be a deterent to strangers.

Why do dog show photos always look like they're from the 70's or 80's? I don't know if it's the sunglasses, the backgrounds, or the way professional handlers dress, but they always kind of look like a blast from the past.

Maybe "show styles" haven't kept up! We are too busy spending money on entries and can't update the wardrobe?

If you get an American Show lines dog with some decent drive, you can do lots of things with them. I would say they are not as much dog as my working line dogs. It is difficult to describe but they seem less "powerful" in a way. I have seen many Am SL dogs with food and toy drive and a desire to do activities. If you pick a suitable one, there are many dog events they can do. My little showline pup has a lot of drive for prey objects. I do not think she will have courage and fighting drive pronounced and that is a difference from my working line boy.

Just comparing my friends WG Showline male to Stark (who is not 100% working line, I know) but for arguments sake, I can see that Stark is a lot more INTENSE and has more strength, nerves and courage and defence than the other male. Stark is just MORE dog than the other. If that makes sense?

I always noticed that too!

One person who I can think of who breaks that sterotype is Lies and her friends. Whenever I see them in training photo's or show photo's that she posts.. they are always wearing such nice clothes and look so modern and "in".

Leah - of course you can post Niko. He is Am. Showlines even if you don't show him. smile What a handsome boy he is.

Oh, of course post pictures even if the dog does not show! Most showline dogs don't do showing, in fact.

Nice looking boy too.

Of course, you can post non-showing dogs here. It is to show others who are learning what the different lines look like and the things you can do with them.

Niko is a good looking boy. Do you do any dog sports with him?

No we don't at the moment. He's my running partner, if that counts. smile

One of our projects for this summer is constructing some easy agility equipment in our play area, just for fun. Niko's probably not built for it and he's not super nimble, but we thought it would be fun and work his brain a bit. I'm sure Rosa will get a kick out of it.

All the other pics I've seen of Niko, I thought he was German show lines! (Shows you how much I know!) Very sweet looking boy, and very nice pigment on him (Nice reds, good dark saddle/blanket).

Here is baby Jag all grown up (at least pretty much).

http://www.pedigreedatabase.com/german_shepherd_dog/dog.html?id=653423

He is 3/4 American Show Line and 1/4 DDR. I love him to death. He is just the coolest dog. Always loves to do stuff -- although he is entering his teenager stage.

He too. He can help me off with my coat, pick up things that I drop, and help with the laundry so I don't have to bend over. He is really great.

No, I haven't. Only AKC shows. But I did go to the WDA Seiger show when it was in St. Louis.
