I came across this picture in my office today, taken when Indy was less than a year old. It struck me how overweight and "corn fed" she looked. She was on Iams and Science Diet back then, and she turned out to be highly intolerant of grains and most other things in kibble. When I took her off kibble a couple of years later, she immediately lost 5 pounds and doubled her muscle mass.

I don't know if these pictures do the change justice. Back then, all my pictures were film, so they aren't scanned, and they are hard to get to right now. I thought it would be interesting to see the difference.

And of course, there is a very young, lanky GSD in the second picture, the angle of the picture making him appear even more adolescent wub

Holy cow! Indy was a fatty! All the pictures I've seen of her, I never would have guessed that at some point she was overweight.

Max. Always a handsome boy!

LJ lost about 10 pounds when I took her off kibble and started cooking. She had weighed 92 pounds. She hadn't eaten grain in a couple years, but had held onto the corn pudge.

Lisa, these are fabulous before and after shots! What a difference. If she looked so much better, we can perhaps also concluded that she FELT so much better! In the end, it's all about the dog, isn't it? smile How great to see teenagery Max too! laugh I had a vet tech at one of my vets who homecooked for her ancient Cocker spaniel. It was a well-researched, balanced diet. The Cocker lived a very long and healthy life. GREAT to see Indy pics-- a super testament to researching and feeding a healthy, balanced homecooked diet!

She did feel a lot better smile I am pleased to say that, as she aged, she continued to feel better, which makes me happy!

We see a lot of before and after pictures of raw-fed dogs. I think so much of it, for some of these dogs, is just getting off of kibble too.

Thanks Patti!

That's the "before" home cooking - LJ was 92 pounds.

Wow, she really didn't have a waste in that first pic!

I love the way they are both looking in that first picture - Steel looks so comfortable in an uncomfortable way!

LJ's coat looks softer, fuller in the accupuncture pic, and she has her stunningly girlish figure! How amazing these changes resulting from loving, concerned owners taking the time to do the research on how to balance a homecooked diet. Lucky dogs! Healthy dogs!! laugh

I checked out that thread as well as Natalie's thread (on the other board) and have ordered some books to begin research. I haven't made a decision yet, but I am very seriously considering it! Just have to research enough to be able to do it correctly for him.

I love that my new job gives me the time to even consider being able to do this for him now!!

If I go ahead with it, I'll be sure to get our before and after's too wink

With Max, I started with half and half, until he bloated, then switched 100%. I am trying to find an emergency kibble (for things like floods, etc.), but so far can't even find one that he will tolerate if I fill his kong with it. After feeding two dogs this way, I don't think I could ever go back smile Might do raw if I ever have a dog that tolerates it wink
