Rosa,

Please take things easy. You know Eli better than anybody, so you can guide a lot of this. Dear lady, Eli climbed (somehow) in the car at home, so you know what he can do. You know. Come on-he trusts you all the way-where else does he get ice cream?

Steroids are heavy guns-so ask a lot of questions.

all the best,
Mary Jane

Thank you all for your kind and caring words. My dear sweet Eli is doing well. We've been back in the backyard playing ball daily and he is really enjoying it. I toss the ball into his mouth and a lot of the time he can catch it!! fetch It really doesn't matter how many times he catches it but its that look of engagement that makes it so worth while. He might not be able to run and chase the ball anymore but his heart is still in it.

I've got a lot to learn about steroids. I need to understand the benefits versus the risks, what our goals are and what we might expect from the results. Right now though, Eli's blood work is coming back really good!!! The doctor is running another Thyroid type test and I'll get those results tomorrow. Actually, I think he might be retesting something to do with the liver,,, can't remember if liver or thyroid.

I used to do the catch game with Rica when she couldn't play fetch anymore, too. There were times when she catch the ball and then sort of pop it out of her mouth. It would bounce back to me. I swear she was doing it on purpose so we were really playing catch.

Glad to hear that Eli is doing well.

That's a great Rica memory wub I'm just thrilled to see him interested in playing again. Before he pretty much let him hit in him in the face more often that he would catch it. Maybe I'd get a catch or two but that was it. Now he's catching lots of the balls and I can see he is so happy to play again.

All of Eli's blood work has come back normal. I've done as much research on steroids as I can do and talked this out with a couple of my friends. I've decided to start Eli on a short term steroid program. I still have some questions/comments out for the Vet but I'm thinking I'll feel even better about my decision once I hear back from him.

The goal of the therapy would be to increase Eli's muscle mass. He suffers from a great deal of muscle atrophy. I give him near daily physical therapy sessions as well as daily massage. I also encourage him to take 'just a few more steps' when he can, but its never enough. We're thinking if we can improve his muscle mass he would then be more mobile which would increase his quality of life.

I know there are risks involved, but I think I owe it to Eli to give it a try.
